Lalin Anik is a Senior Lecturer at the Columbia Business School at Columbia University. As an expert in the science of behavior change, she combines insights from psychology and economics to tackle big business and societal problems. Prof. Anik has worked closely and consulted with major companies, organizations and governments to design novel social interventions that help consumers, employees and communities make better decisions and lead healthier, happier and more productive lives.

Her research is published in top academic journals and featured frequently by media outlets including Bloomberg, CNN, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, National Public Radio, Scientific American, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.

As an award-winning teacher, Prof. Anik was named as the “2019 MBA Professor of the Year” as well as one of the “2019 Best 40 Under 40 MBA Professors” by Poets & Quants. Prior to Columbia Business School, she taught at University of Virginia’s Darden Business School, where was she was recognized by the students as the Faculty Marshall, Outstanding Faculty, and as a vocal Diversity, Equity and Inclusion advocate. Prior to Darden, she also taught during her post-doctorate at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

She holds a doctorate of business administration degree in marketing from Harvard Business School and a B.A. degree in psychology and business from Brandeis University.

Lalin Anik's research and teaching focus on the impact of social connection on consumer behavior and consumer welfare. Her research in marketing and behavioral economics explores the multifaceted influence of social connection - from creating new social ties to priming existing social ties - on consumer behavior in two primary areas: motivation and social influence. Over a decade, Lalin has worked closely and consulted with major companies, organizations and governments to design novel social interventions that help employees, consumers and communities lead healthier, happier and more productive lives.

Before joining Darden, Lalin was a post-doctoral fellow at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business where she worked with Dan Ariely at The Center for Advanced Hindsight.
