Biography

Villanova University

Kyle Juretus is a PhD student working in the Integrated Circuits and Electronics (ICE) Lab under the guidance of Dr. Ioannis Savidis. His research area is in VLSI circuit design with a focus on hardware security. Kyle’s research aims to create a secure ecosystem of integrated circuits (ICs) in order to prevent unauthorized usage, reduced device lifetimes, incorrect operation, and information leakage of ICs. His main avenue of research focuses on preventing integrated circuit (IC) property theft and counterfeiting using logic encryption. He has developed a patented logic encryption methodology that is able to substantially reduce the overhead of logic encryption, which expands the feasibility of logic encryption usability in commercial applications.

In addition to research, Kyle has been a teaching assistant for the courses Introduction to VLSI Design, Design with Microcontrollers, Embedded Systems, and High Performance Computer Architecture. As a STAR Summer Scholar in 2010, Kyle investigated and analyzed the heating effects on SERS with gold-decorated carbon nanotubes under the advisement of Drs. Gary Friedman, Yury Gogotsi, and Gail Rosen. He completed two co-ops at Woodward McCoach working on high speed printed circuit board (PCB) design, and one co-op at the Penn State Applied Research Facility working on a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) based navigation system. Kyle is also a mentor and judge for the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) program, which aims to promote and foster STEM education.

Kyle received Bachelor of Science degrees in both Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Drexel University in 2014, gradating summa cum laude and with Honors Distinction from the Honors Program, within the Pennoni Honors College.
