Biography

Boston University

Adjunct Professor Kyei-Aboagye’s field of expertise in city planning and urban affairs is the impact of environmental justice on public policy, planning, and law. He is currently researching the impact of mining on rural communities in Ghana, and implementation of international environmental law in Ghana. His research explores environmental issues in Ghana, and its participation in multilateral environmental conventions. He has been an adjunct professor in city planning and urban affairs since 2004.

Currently, he works as a Massachusetts urban environmental program manager for the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region I (MA, RI, NH, ME, CT, and VT), where he is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the Massachusetts Urban Environmental Program. Prior to joining the Urban Environmental Program, Mr. Kyei-Aboagye has served as the Environmental Justice Coordinator and the Historic Preservation Officer at the U.S. EPA. Mr. Kyei-Aboagye is the recipient of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Gold Medal for Exceptional Service for systematically transforming regional operations to incorporate environmental justice principles, and achieving dramatic environmental results in EJ communities.

Mr. Kyei-Aboagye is the President of Pipitt Global Consulting, a boutique international consulting firm specializing in energy, commercial, environmental and urban redevelopment projects in developing countries. Pipitt worked with His Majesty Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin (King of Akyem Abuakwa, Ghana) to establish the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies in Ghana. The university is founded on two principal pillars, agriculture and the environment, in recognition of the fact that bad agrarian practices are now scientifically accepted to be largely responsible for the grave and present ecological threat facing the region. The University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) is the first university in Ghana and Africa to focus solely on the environment, agriculture, eco-management, and eco-tourism. The university was inaugurated in October, 2011.

Prior to the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region I, Mr. Kyei-Aboagye worked six years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs as a watershed planner for the Greater Boston Harbor (Mystic, Weymouth-Weir, Fore River, and the Neponset). He also worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an urban environmental coordinator, sustainable development coordinator, and environmental justice coordinator.
