Biography

Heinz College

Through her multi-faceted role, Kathryn oversees the arts management curriculum and its faculty, spearheads the MAM program team and its agenda (marketing, alumni relations, career services, admissions), cultivates strategic partnerships with the local, national and international arts community, and advises the Arts Management and Technology Laboratory, a research initiative exploring best practices in arts management and technology. She also leads the dual degree partnership with the University of Bologna''s Graduate Degree in Innovation and Organization of Culture and the Arts (GIOCA) program in Italy.

Most recently, Kathryn served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Carnegie Mellon School of Music, where she spearheaded all marketing, publications, box office/ticketing and media relations for the School, which presents more than 250 concerts, recitals, and other special programs annually. Additionally, for 8 seasons, Kathryn led education and community engagement initiatives for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the Midatlantic region''s largest performing arts presenter and operator of Pittsburgh''s Cultural District, most recently serving as the Director of First Night Pittsburgh and the Senior Manager of Education and Community Engagement. While at the Trust, Kathryn founded and managed 200 ArtsMasters programs (outreach/residency program in conjunction with the Dance Council, PNC Broadway Across America and TrustPresents series), produced 30 Gallery Crawls (a quarterly showcase of art entertainment), and oversaw 3 First Night Pittsburgh festivals (the region''s largest single night arts festival), breaking attendance records and reaching millions of students, teachers and community members during her tenure.

In addition, Kathryn has also held various other arts leadership roles- from overseeing a venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Scotland, UK) to managing audience services and volunteer operations for Jacob''s Pillow Dance Festival (which received President Obama''s National Medal of Arts in 2011), resulting in the most efficiently managed festival to date. She also gained significant arts administration experience through her work with IMG Artists (NYC), Chicago Academy for the Arts, Old Town School of Folk Music, Center for Arts Management and Technology, and others.

An active member of her community, Kathryn was recently dubbed by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of Pittsburgh''s "40 Under 40" honorees for her passion, commitment, and overall impact on the Pittsburgh region. She has served on the Board of Trustees for Grow Pittsburgh, Labco Dance (past president), Future Tenant: A Space for Art, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP), and on the advisory boards of various Carnegie Mellon University capstone projects. Recognizing the lack of resources for up-and-coming local arts leaders, Kathryn co-founded the Pittsburgh Emerging Arts Leaders network in 2007, in order to strengthen Pittsburgh''s cultural workforce by connecting emerging arts managers with skill-building and leadership development resources and assist arts managers with management-related issues. She is also a Lead Partner for the Performing Arts Center Eastside/Tateuchi Center (in Bellevue, WA) "Hands on the Future" program, a member of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Professional Development Task Force, a former Cultural Manager in Residence at The Studios of Key West, and an active member of a wide variety of arts associations across the globe.

Kathryn holds a Master of Arts Management (MAM) degree from Carnegie Mellon University''s Heinz School of Public Policy and Management/College of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College Chicago, where she studied dance and performing arts management. She also attended University of Michigan''s Residential College and is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh''s Leadership Development Initiative, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters'' Emerging Leadership Institute, and the Coro Center for Civic Leadership''s Women in Leadership program.
