Biography

Leonard N. Stern School of Business

Kathleen is the Chairman of the Board of Evolute, a wealth management software startup. She leads the FinTech investment practice for Go Beyond, the largest pan-European Angel platform, and is a member of Goldenseeds, the New York based Angel group focused on female entrepreneurs. Her areas of special interest and expertise are wealth and asset management, financial technology and quantitative finance, and China’s political economy.

She was most recently a Managing Director and the Head of Business Strategy and Solutions at Credit Suisse Private Banking and Wealth Management, Investment Strategy and Research where she led the team designing the banks’ robo-advisor and led global strategy and product design for asset management. Prior to this role she was the Head of Global Investment Process for the multi-asset class business. Before joining Credit Suisse, Kathleen was a Managing Partner and the Head of Portfolio Management and Research at a New York hedge fund. Prior to that, Kathleen was a Managing Director at Bessemer Trust, where she was the Head of Large Capitalization Equities and managed multi- billions in high net worth client portfolios. Before Bessemer, Kathleen spent twelve years at Deutsche Bank, the successor organization to Scudder Stevens & Clark, where she was a Principal and Managing Director, in a succession of management and portfolio management roles, managing $12 billion in client assets. Kathleen started her career at Chase Manhattan Bank, (now JPMorgan), where she was an analyst and portfolio manager. She has been the subject of a Barron’s cover story and has made numerous television appearances.

Academic: Kathleen has an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, a MBA from the London School of Economics, Haute Ecole Commerciale in France, and NYU’s Stern School of Business (TRIUM program), and an MSc (with distinction) in Contemporary Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford, where she won the Humphrey Ko prize for best MSc thesis in her year.

Kathleen is the author of “The Evolving Challenges of Quantitative Investing” with her former hedge fund partner Robert Hagin, a chapter in Investment Management: the Noble Challenges of Funding Pensions, Deficits, and Growth. She has authored papers on Market Neutral Investing and other investment research topics. She has also guest taught undergraduate investment analysis at Columbia and a course on culture-bound investor risk-taking for business school students at NYU Shanghai. She has been a panel judge for the TRIUM Capstone start-ups.

Societies: Kathleen is a Chartered Financial Analyst, (CFA), a member of The Economic Club of New York, a 100 Women in Hedge Funds “Angel,” and of the New York Society of Security Analysts.

Philanthropy: Kathleen founded the “Kathleen Traynor Research Fund” at Princeton’s Bendheim Center for Finance, which supports women students in finance. She also helped to fund scholarships for women at TRIUM and NYU Stern. Kathleen is on the board of Non-traditional Employment for Women (NEW) a New York City not-for-profit. She has coached entrepreneurs for Astia and Springboard.

Boards (for profit): Kathleen is the board chair of Evolute, a software company, in Zug, Switzerland, and served on the Advisory board of Go Beyond. She was a board member for EDGE, a Swiss HR software company in 2014-2015.
