Biography:
Mr. Karl O''Callaghan has lived in four countries. He was born in the UK, spent time teaching in France and Russia, and came to Japan nearly twenty years ago. He joined Oxford University Press in Tokyo in 2004 as a consultative salesman, and was quickly given wider and more important areas to cover. After becoming manager of the Osaka sales office, he next took on the role of Marketing Manager, learning on the job while using his experience as a salesperson, customer and decision maker.
The first three years in this job brought lots of trial and error, until Mr. O''Callaghan enrolled in GLOBIS. Then, there was more trial and error but he was able to apply some rigid frameworks into his planning and thinking, which raised his game both as a marketer and as a manager.
Always striving for a bigger challenge, after obtaining his MBA from GLOBIS, he took on a wider role as Head of Marketing and Operations, UK Trade and Investment. In this role, Mr. O''Callaghan worked with UK and Japanese companies across all sectors in trying to enter new markets.
In early 2016, making use of his extensive consulting and external trade experience, he started his own market entry consultancy based in Hyogo Prefecture.
Faculty Message:
Being a graduate of GLOBIS, I understand how difficult it is to juggle work, family, friends and study. But I also know how rewarding it is to learn new things and to be able to try them in the real world of business. I can truly attest to the value of the learning, the networks and the personal mission that students hone during their time here at the school. We all have a lot to learn from each other.
Through confident action, my personal mission is to guide others to shared understanding for a better world. I will learn from every interaction and contribute to a better world by helping others achieve their daily and life goals. I will enable people to create new opportunities by bringing them together across borders.
My teaching in class reflects this belief. I will learn from you all and will be sure to create an environment where we all learn from each other. Let''s master the essentials of marketing and strategy!
