Biography
Villanova University
Dr. Satrio was originally from Indonesia, a vast islands country in the tropic of South East Asia, which is blessed with plentiful biomass resources. Dr. Satrio's research passion is in the development of technologies for utilizing biorenewable materials for the producing energy, fuels, and chemicals to reduce our society reliance on non-renewable carbon sources. His research area specialization is on non-catalytic and catalytic thermochemical processes, such as fast pyrolysis and gasification to convert lignocellulosic biomass into chemicals and liquid fuels. Past and present research projects that Dr. Satrio have been involved include biomass pretreatment and characterization, fundamental studies on fast pyrolysis, characterization of fast-pyrolysis products, catalytic upgrading of fast pyrolysis oil to produce hydrogen, conversion of syngas to liquid fuels via Fischer-Tropsch-type synthesis, engineering bio-char for soil quality enhancement, life cycle analysis and technoeconomic evaluation on fast pyrolysis and gasification-based biorefineries.
Present research projects: 1) Fundamental study on fast pyrolysis of biomass, 2)Exploration on the utilization of spent mushroom substrates (SMS) for the production of value added products, 3)Physicochemical characterization and exploration of the usages of fast pyrolytic oil, 4)Exploration on a hybrid thermochemical-biochemical process: Conversion of biomass to bio-oil followed by bio-oil fermentation to produce alcohols, 5)Design and construction of a bench scale continuous fast pyrolysis reactor system for studying fast pyrolysis of biomass and for producing fast pyrolytic oil to be used for further study, 6)Design and construction of a bench scale tubular reactor system for non-catalytic/catalytic gasification of biomass/bio-oil to produce synthesis gas and hydrogen.
