MBSC Prince Mohammad Bin Salman College

Dr. Joris van de Klundert holds an MSc in Management Informatics from Erasmus University Rotterdam (1991) and a Ph.D. in Operations Research (1996) from Maastricht University. He has been founding director and co-owner of Maastricht University spin-off MateUM, and co-developed the Venlo Campus of Maastricht University, and the MSc program in Supply Management & Innovation. He served as full professor of Value Chain Optimization at the School of Business and Economics of Maastricht University in 2007 and 2008. From 2009 until 2017 he has chaired the Department of Health Services Management & Organisation of the Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management (ESHPM), of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Joris also served as a Vice-Dean of Education for ESHPM. He is a past board member and president of the Dutch Operations Research Society (NGB). He chaired and hosted the INFORMS Healthcare 2017 conference, and chairs the Management Committee of EU COST Action ENC KEP.

Starting from his Ph.D. research (1992-1996), Joris has combined cutting-edge theoretical work with applied, empirical work devoted to the improvement of practice. His Ph.D. research addressed the optimization of automated manufacturing systems. The theoretical contributions have been published in INFORMS’ flagship journal Operations Research, and the practical contributions have enable double-digit efficiency improvement for Philips color television production lines. His later research primarily addressed optimization of value chains in the service industry, including applications in mobile communication (Vodafone) and Road Side Services (ANWB) which has been published in leading journals such as Manufacturing and Service Operations Research and Interfaces. Joris has primarily focused on healthcare applications from 2009 onwards, serving as chair of the Department of Health Services Management & Organisation, at Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 2011 till 2014 he also served as Vice-Dean of Education of the Erasmus School for Health Policy & Management. His work in Healthcare has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Medical Internet Research, The Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, PLoS Computational Biology, and Transplantation. He has been awarded the ERIM Management IMPACT award 2016. Joris chaired the INFORMS Healthcare conference in 2017 and chairs the European COST Action ENC KEP.

He takes great joy in teaching from undergrad courses to international executive courses. He has taught MSc and MBA courses in operations and supply chain management at leading business schools (Maastricht University, Rotterdam School of Management, European Master in Logistics), and at Ph.D. level (Healthcare Operations Research, Dutch Network for Operations Research). Moreover, he has designed, directed and taught tailored executive programs for SABIC, the World Bank, World Health Organisation, and a wide variety of healthcare executives, ranging from China, Indonesia, Iraq, Ethiopia, to Colombia.
