Mr. McCarthy founded McCarthy Grittinger Financial Group, LLC, an independent financial planning and investment advisory firm in 1995. As of the end of 2016 he is retired from the firm, which continues with a strong team in place. The practice is geared toward individuals facing financial transition and specializes in the area of retirement planning. Mr. McCarthy was a certified financial planner (CFP) and a registered investment advisor. He is the author of Financial Planning for a Secure Retirement, second edition, published by the International Foundation. Mr. McCarthy is also the author of three self-published books, including The New Millennium Guide to Managing Your Money and Embrace the Journey—Stories of Life and Finance, a financial life planning book. His latest book, published in 2016, is Maggie’s Angels: Loving, Living With, and Learning From a Special Needs Daughter. In it, Mr. McCarthy, as Maggie’s dad, chronicles the joys and challenges of being a father to a special needs adult child. After an extensive 35-year background in the financial services industry as a practitioner, trust officer, mutual fund executive and educator, he remains quite active in charitable causes and continuing with investment education and is a frequent speaker about the book Maggie’s Angels.
