Boston University

John W. Mackey is Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Social Sciences Division in the
College of General Studies. He teaches courses on modern Russian and Chinese history,
American foreign policy, and modern European history. He received the Peyton Richter
Award for Interdisciplinary Teaching from the College of General Studies in 2016, the
Janice Thaddeus Teaching Prize from Harvard University in 2004, and the Donald White
Teaching Excellence Award from Boston College in 1997. His work has been published
by Cognoscenti, Salon, and We’re History. He is currently writing a
guidebook for first-year college students.
