Biography
John Lump is vice president and director of SEC Reporting at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. He also serves as an instructor in the Department of Finance at the Driehaus College of Business. Lump began his career at Arthur Andersen and Andersen Consulting, where he became an experienced manager with an emphasis on international operations, especially in Asia and Latin America.
From Andersen, he joined Johnson & Higgins, a big six insurance brokerage where he served the role as its international controller. Lump also served as the chief financial officer for several startups, has invested as an angel investor in another 10, and currently counsels entrepreneurial students at DePaul through his Financing New Ventures class and through the promotion of its Coleman Entrepreneurship Center. In his role as CFO for several startups, John guided companies from inception through strategic merger into larger entities. Almost all of the entities were successfully exited into larger companies. Lump also developed capital formation strategies, budgeting, fundraising, product pricing, profitability analyses, marketing strategies, SEC registration, and merger and acquisition.
Through his Financing New Ventures class at DePaul, Lump has maintained a large network of specialists in the venture capital/private equity space, including general managers at funds, partners at law firms, angel investors, authors and entrepreneurs. Lump currently serves as Treasurer of Heartland Angels, an angel group located in Chicago. Heartland has made more than two dozen investments in local startups, specializing in medical life sciences and information technology.
