Background

John DeMeo is a lecturer in finance at the University of South Carolina''s Darla Moore School of Business.

Before joining the university, DeMeo was a managing director at BlackRock Solutions (BRS) from 2008 to 2014. He served as a senior member of the Client Analytics Group within BRS. This team was responsible for analytical support for clients of the BRS enterprise investment system, Aladdin. DeMeo partnered with institutional clients to leverage BRS analytic services, tools and models to meet their investment and risk management needs.

Prior to joining Blackrock, DeMeo was a principal at Prudential’s Fixed Income Investment Management Group from 2000 to 2007. John and his team’s responsibilities included reporting of portfolio risk profiles and performance versus relevant benchmarks, supporting the portfolio managers by producing various types of portfolio analysis, ensuring the quality of pricing and indicative data sources and assisting in the ongoing development of the risk management system.

Previous to Prudential, DeMeo was a director in Fixed Income Research at Salomon Brothers (now Citi) and was the head of the Global Fixed Income Index Group. The group is responsible for a wide variety of indexes including the Broad Investment-Grade Bond Index, the High Yield Market Index, the World Government Bond Index and the World Broad Investment-Grade Bond Index.

DeMeo joined Salomon Brothers in 1979. Prior to his Index responsibilities, he worked in a number of different areas of the firm including Fixed Income Research, Fixed Income Sales and Yield Book. In Fixed Income Research, he was responsible for the analysis and implementation of structured fixed income portfolio products for money managers and plan sponsors. In Fixed Income Sales, he managed a group that specialized in dedication, indexation, cash flow and total rate of return analysis.  As head of customer service, he played a key role in the development and marketing of the Yield Book — a comprehensive fixed income portfolio system used by money management firms, insurance companies, banks and pension funds.
