About the work

Joel’s work often focuses on issues of objecthood and the nature of the object in relation to technology. The project Enacting Objects, marked the beginning of an on-going investigation into the hidden spacio-temporal and avisual objects of gesture and their relationship to language. In this project things proported to be “invisible” and “immaterial” are mapped out and given a solid form. The process and materializations from the project directly engage the latest in Human-Computer Interaction.

Joel’s curiosity for technique has led him in into a number of sculptural practices, from glass-casting and traditional boatbuilding, to the latest in 3D fabrication. This catalog of material and process is a constant wellspring for his production.
