Biography

Bristol Business School

Dr. Jo Hare is a Senior Lecturer in Product and Service Design at UWE, Bristol.

I specialise in Human-Centred Design. In particular in the earliest stages of project identification, establishing user needs and applying creative approaches to product and service development.

Design Thinking is an application of Human Centred Design and the wider design 'toolkit' toolkit' to business and strategic projects which I have been involved in for over 7 years. Establishing the role real people play in the success of innovations, fostering a 'making things tangible' approach and applying creativity to complex projects.

I have 15 years of professional experience in industry & academia. Prior to joining UWE I worked on a range of projects as a Senior User-Centred Designer at PDR, an International Centre for Design and Research; projects included medical devices, baby products, kitchen appliances and banking.

Teaching Activities: Programme Leader Ba. Product Design, Module Leader in the areas of human centred design, design process, design research methods and live projects.

Research Activities: 15 Journal and conference publications, review panels more conferences and journals, co-writing a book 'Touch IT' with Prof. Alan Dix (Birmingham University) and Prof. Steve Gill (Cardiff Metropolitan University) as an outcome of the research council funded DEPtH: Designing for Physicality project.
