Boston University
Boston University International Relations Professor Jeremy Menchik’s research interests include comparative politics, religion and politics, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. His book Islam, Indonesia, and Modern Muslim Democracy: Tolerance without Liberalism, is forthcoming from Cambridge University Press and explains the meaning of tolerance to the leaders of the world’s largest Islamic organizations in order to understand how their values shape politics in a Muslim-majority democracy. Related publications appear in the journals Comparative Studies in Society and History _and Southeast Asia Research_.
His research has received the Mildred Potter Hovland Journal Article Prize, the Best Qualitative or Multi-Method Submission to the _American Political Science Review, _the Graduate Student Paper Award from the Indonesia and East Timor Studies Committee of the Association of Asian Studies, and his dissertation was given Honorable Mention for the Aaron Wildavsky Award. After receiving his PhD in political science from the University of Wisconsin, he held fellowships at Columbia University, Stanford University, and the American University of Beirut.
At Boston University he is a member of the graduate faculty of political science and coordinates the MA program in IR and Religion.
