McCourt School of Public Policy
Jean-Jacques Dethier has taught at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown since 2003; at the University of Bonn, Germany, at UC Berkeley and at ESPOL, Ecuador. He specializes in development policy and has worked at the World Bank for 30 years, at the ILO and, as a consultant, for several organizations incl. USAID. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from UC Berkeley (1985) and a law degree from the University of Liège, Belgium (1975). He also has an ABD Ph.D. in political science at the Free University in Berlin, Germany (1976). He has published extensively on development and aid, in peer reviewed journals and other publications. His recent books include Growth and Empowerment. with Nick Stern (MIT Press 2005); Governance, Decentralization and Reform in China, India and Russia (Kluwer 2000) and Public Finance Reform during the Transition (World Bank 1998).
