Jean-Christophe Troussel

He is an intellectual property partner and the head of the IP practice in Brussels, offering clients over 25 years of hands-on experience in all sorts of contentious and transactional matters in IP and technology. He possesses in-depth expertise in sectors including food & beverage, life sciences, and consumer goods.

From day one, his practice has focused on the protection and monetization of clients' innovation and IP assets. This has led him to delve into all types of IP dispute resolution, including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, designs, copyright, and unfair competition matters, both at national and cross-border levels.

Aligning litigation with business goals is a complex and challenging task, which plays a key role in his responsibilities. He finds great enjoyment in this aspect as it allows him to become an integral part of the client's team.

He is also adept at managing IP rights as crucial corporate assets, excelling as a negotiator and contractual lawyer in stand-alone IP transactions and various forms of collaborations and corporate deals where brands and technology are essential. This includes handling the IP aspects of M&A, restructurings, finance-driven transactions, and IP due diligence. He derives satisfaction from the mechanics of contract negotiation and drafting, working closely with clients to devise contract solutions that align with their business objectives while complying with their corporate values and risk culture.

Furthermore, he extends his support to clients on issues related to portfolio management and protection, as well as addressing emerging challenges such as IP issues in the digital world, including social media.

He holds the position of Vice-President of the Licensing Executive Society International (LESI), having previously served as President of LES Benelux, International Counsel to the board of LESI, and Chairman of the LESI European Committee. He actively participates as a member of INTA, EPLAW, and AIPPI, regularly sharing his expertise as a speaker at IP conferences throughout Europe. He is fluent in English, Dutch, and French.Committee.
