Jason Brent

Jason Brent received his MS in Economics from UNC Chapel Hill, where his research specialization was human capital development. He is a permanent fellow at Duke's Center for History of Political Economy (HOPE). An award-winning teacher, Jason offers courses in the History of Economic Thought and The Uses of Economics within the Duke Economics Department and in Values and Economics at the Sanford School of Public Policy.

Jason has consulted with several local technology start-ups, a major internet content firm and the North Carolina Justice Center – a Raleigh-based policy-analysis and lobbying shop.

At Fuqua, Jason's course on Competitive Analysis equips students to hone sophisticated economic reasoning tools and challenges them to develop deeper understandings of the economic nature of specific products, competitive environments, firm structures, and compensation strategies.

His research interests focus on the analysis of historical and contemporary modes of economic reasoning, and the forms of rhetoric that have emerged to support them.

He is currently in the beginning stages of a larger project on the economic analyses of the super-rich, both in contemporary economics and throughout history.
