Janis Barry

Janis Barry specializes in labor and health economics. In 2006, she received a Fulbright Scholar’s award to teach in Finland. Her most recent publication (2012) appears in The Journal of Urban Health, where she looked at the significance of poverty-area residence for increasing the odds of a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis, in three major US cities, over a 10-year period. Her current research considers why the expansion of the physician workforce, as incentivized by the Affordable Care Act, will not automatically improve the production of health. Using the National Health Interview Survey merged with three other data sets, she investigates contextual as well as individual determinants of cancer screening utilization. She is an active member of the American Society of Health Economists and the International Health Economics Association.
