Biography

An experienced executive and former Dean of The Owen Graduate School of Management, James Bradford has had a profound influence on the world of Owen and the world of business

Awards & Accomplishments

Professor Bradford was named 2015’s Non-Executive Chairman of the Year for all NYSE and Nasdaq-listed companies. As a full-time faculty member at Owen, he won the Dean’s Teaching Award.

Impact

During his tenure, Bradford spearheaded the development and launch of six innovative, market-driven and immersion-based programs at Owen, including the Health Care MBA, master’s degrees in finance (MSF), healthcare management (MMHC) and accountancy (MAcc), the Americas MBA (AMBA) and Accelerator, a 30-day summer intensive for highly qualified undergraduates. In 2006, he established a Board of Visitors comprised of leading corporate executives to further strengthen Owen’s connection and relevance to the national and international business communities, and has formed additional advisory boards for the health care and accountancy degree programs.

Leadership

An experienced corporate executive, Professor Bradford previously served as president and CEO of United Glass Corporation and AFG Industries Inc. Prior to that, he served as AFG’s general counsel and spent 11 years in private law practice. He has also been active in the graduate business education industry, having served as Chair of the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC). He currently serves on the board of directors for several leading public companies: CLARCOR Inc.; Cracker Barrel, Inc. (non-executive Chair); Genesco, Inc. (lead director) and Granite Inc.

James Bradford was awarded the John F. Richards Fellowship from the Afghanistan Institute of Afghanistan Studies to research the history of opium production, use, and trade in Afghanistan. His research led to the publication of his article, "Drug Control in Afghanistan: Culture, Politics, and Power during the 1958 Prohibition of Opium in Badakhshan," in the Journal of Iranian Studies (forthcoming, March 2015). His broader research interests include U.S. foreign policy, the illicit drug trade, and issues related to state building, globalization, and economic development in South Asia and the world. He also teaches classes on the global drug trade, human rights, political and social revolutions, South Asia, and U.S. foreign policy in the world at Berklee College of Music
