Biography
Kellogg School of Management
Professor Chaves is an economic theorist. He joined Kellogg in 2018 after receiving a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University and an A.B. magna cum laude in History from Harvard College. His research areas are information economics, market design, and political economy. His recent research focuses on bargaining: the effects of pricing transparency on negotiated prices, and how the way that offers are financed can affect negotiation dynamics in large corporate transactions. His political economy work has studied, among other things, the persistence and effects of pre-colonial institutions on economic development in West Africa.
