Biography

Ian Crowther Ph.D (UoM), joined Sheffield Hallam University in September 2018. Ian is a Senior Lecturer in Banking and Financial Markets. Ian is teaching on Undergraduate, MA, MSc and MBA programmes that reflect his research interests in areas of specialist banking (Private Equity, Leveraged Finance, Global Business Environment, Finance, Risk Management, International Financial Management, International Financial Markets and Financial Trading), heterodox economics and financial crisis.

Ian completed his PhD thesis in April 2019, titled "A critique of post-crisis structural and prudential banking regulation: the UK case", at the University of Manchester Alliance Manchester Business School.

Over a 16 year period, Ian worked at numerous London-based banking institutions as a Director, specialising in Syndicated Finance and in particular private equity sponsored buy-out's. Ian has also held senior positions in Loan Origination, Portfolio Management and Secondary Trading of primary and distressed situations pre and post Global Financial Crisis, as well as sitting on the European Loan Market Association’s Legal Documentation and Trade Practices Committee.

Ian is a member of SASE (Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics) and has presented regularly at EAEPE (European Association Evolutionary Political Economy) where he was co-responsible for Area J that promotes research on Monetary Economics, Finance and Financial Institutions.
