For the past ten years, Dr. Broder has served as a master classroom teacher, student adviser, grade dean, teacher mentor, and college guidance counselor in the English and College Guidance Departments of two area schools, first at Yeshiva University High School for Boys, and most recently, at SAR High School. As an undergraduate at Yeshiva University, Dr. Broder was a Samuel Golding Scholar in the YU Honors Program, where he studied English and graduated, summa cum laude. While working as a full-time teacher, Dr. Broder continued his academic and professional training for seven years, completing an M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D. in modernist and contemporary English literature at the Graduate Center, CUNY, where his doctorate earned the Calder Prize for Best Dissertation in Contemporary Literature. Additionally, over the years, he has taught professional development modules for teachers through the Yeshiva University School Partnership, and he has also taught composition and rhetoric at Fordham University over the past two years.
Dr. Broder favors a progressive, student-centered, and interdisciplinary approach to education. Beyond his scholarly publications in literary studies, popular publications in newspapers and magazines, and creative publications in poetry journals, he has received awards for innovating project-based and interdisciplinary units. He has researched, published, and presented on best practices in 21st century education, English education, educational psychology, and educational technology. He has implemented curricula for portfolio-driven classrooms, digital composition workshops, 21st century student skills, and experiential education.
