Henley Business School

Henry Russell is a chartered surveyor specialising in conservation of the historic environment. He edits the Journal of Architectural Conservation, a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Routledge. He is course director for historic environment short courses at Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education. 

Henry chairs the Gloucester Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches and is a member of the Church Buildings Council. He is a member executive committee of ICOMOS-UK (the UK national committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites) and deputy chair of COTAC, the Council on Training in Architectural Conservation.

Henry chairs the Heritage Alliance's Spatial Planning Advocacy Group, which regularly liaises with Historic England and government departments over changes to planning and heritage legislation, implementing the UK government's Green Deal, and the impact on heritage of HS2, the UK's new high-speed rail network. He has appeared before Parliamentary committees and drafts responses to government consultations on heritage matters.

He was a member of the drafting panel of BS7913:2013, The Guide to the Principles of the Conservation of Historic Buildings.  He is a south-east panel member for the RICS Awards.

Henry was awarded an OBE in 2010 for public service.
