Biography
Heico Wesselius (M.Phil in Economics) received his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics from the Amsterdam Business School, The Netherlands. He worked for several leading management consulting practices in The United States, Europe and Asia.
Since 2005, he has collaborated with various strategic design consultancies and agencies in New York City, Amsterdam, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Heico focuses on the development of industry relevant research and investment opportunities in research translation and commercialisation capabilities thereby creating innovative pathways and generating impact for both industry and academia.
From 2005 to 2013, Heico served The New School and the President of the University as a Practice-based Professor and Advisor in Strategic Design & Management Initiatives and Programs. He is presently a Doctoral Candidate in Economics. During his 8 years with Parsons The New School for Design, Heico was instrumental in developing innovative undergraduate, graduate programs in Strategic Design and Transdisciplinary Design.
He taught graduate courses and advised doctoral students on the strategic use of design capabilities in complex domains of innovation. He has worked with industry partners such as Siemens Engineering, Daimler-Chrysler, NASA, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, LVMH Group, Microsoft, Samsung, JP Morgan Chase, UNDP/ UNICEF, CSIRO, Australia Post, United States Postal Service on the strategic use of design capabilities within in complex organisations.
Heico joined the School of Design at Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne) in 2013. He joined RMIT University two years later as Principal Strategic Advisor for RMIT’s Technology & Design Incubator and Business Accelerator (RMIT X | now called RMIT Activator).
