Grant Ackerman

Grant Ackerman is a Faculty of Executive Education at Columbia Business School. His teaching emphasis is on Executive Leadership, Collaborative Leadership Models and Cross-Cultural Issues in Management. His research focuses on Managing Conflict and Consensus Within and Between Firms, Cross-Cultural Negotiations and Dispute Resolution and Organizational Justice. His papers and publications include “Treating Subordinates with Dignity and Respect: Does It Always Matter? “The Moderating Effect of Power Distance,” 2000 Academy of Management, “Culture’s Influence on Preferences for and Reactions to Elements of Procedural Justice,” 2000 Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, “When Do Elements of Procedural Fairness Make a Difference: A Classification of Moderating Influences,” Advances in Organizational Justice (1999) and “Further Evidence of Culture’s Influence On Employee’s Reactions to Participation In Decision Making: The Effects of Uncertainty Avoidance and Power Distance,” 1997 Academy of Management. Other publications include CISG Annotated: Legislative History and Annotations to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (New York: Warren, Gorham & Lamont, 1992). From 1985 to 1989 he served with Educational Services Exchange with China, Inc. (ESEC) as Director of the Institute for International Trade. Other professional experience includes serving as Academic Director and then Associate Dean for Executive Education at Columbia Business School, and Coordinator of the Team Leadership Program at Columbia Business School's Professional Development Center. He has extensive experience in organizational consulting and has provided educational programs or consultations for such companies as Avon, Banker's Trust, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Ford Motors, Sampoerna (Indonesia), GE Credit Corporation, Lend Lease Americas, Time Warner, and World Vision, USA. He received his B.A. in Foreign Service and International Relations with a Certificate in Russian Area Studies from The Pennsylvania State University, a J.D. from The University of Pittsburgh and his M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
