Grace Augustine

Dr Grace Augustine is a Lecturer in the Department of Management at the Bayes Business School (formerly Cass). Prior to this role, Dr Augustine completed a PhD in Management & Organizations and Sociology (a joint degree programme) at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and an MSc in Management Research at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School.

Dr Augustine's research focuses on the interplay between social movements that advocate for societal change and the responses of organizations to this social movement pressure. In particular, she looks at these changes from the perspectives of multiple organizations in emerging fields that are created to address social movement concerns. She also examines longitudinal change processes that are carried out by individuals working in roles that have been created to respond to movement demands – such as sustainability managers.

While most of Dr Augustine's research is on organizing for sustainability, she also has a stream of work on the organization of abortion services in the United States, looking at how the movement for abortion rights translated over time into the way abortion became organized. Furthermore, Dr Augustine is also examining how this service has become threatened into near extinction in many parts of the U.S. and the role of counter-movement activities in these processes.

Methodologically, Dr Augustine's analyses often adopt a field-level approach, examining the relationships between organizations and between individuals situated in multiple organizations. She uses qualitative methods (e.g. interviews and archival data analysis) alongside computational text analysis techniques, such as topic modelling, to explore changes over time.

Dr Augustine teaches the Business in Society and Corporate Social Responsibility classes to undergraduate students, and also works as part of a team to deliver the core Critical Thinking and Introduction to Management courses.
