Biography
Kellogg School of Management
Mr. Bette is a Director Emeritus of McKinsey & Company, Inc. He retired from
McKinsey's Chicago office in October 2010 after more than 28 years. His practice
focused on serving leading global institutions in multi-year relationships. He worked with
senior teams of technology-based companies in telecommunications, IT and healthcare
industries. He served his clients on some of their most important topics ranging from
developing product market strategies, functional performance improvement programs to
transforming entire organizations. He has also worked extensively with new entrants and
private equity investors in these dynamic spaces.
At McKinsey Mr. Bette held a range of internal leadership roles. He was one of the cofounders
of McKinsey's global Telecommunication practice and served as the leaders of
its North American telecommunication practice for many years.
Since his retirement Mr. Bette has been active as an advisor to several of his former
clients, including some global private equity and alternative investment firms. He serves
on the board of several of their portfolio companies He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the
Department of Management, Organization and Strategy at the Kellogg School of
Management at Northwestern University. Since 2008, he has taught a course on
managing in professional service firms and more recently on problem solving. Mr. Bette
has been committed to helping non-profit organizations for more than 25 years and even
in retirement continues to serve as a board member of non-profits institutions.
Mr. Bette holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a Doctorate in Mathematics
from the University of Duisburg, Germany. He graduated from the University of
Dortmund, Germany with a degree in Mathematics and studied at the Universite Pierre et
Marie Curie, Paris with post graduate scholarships from the French and German
governments.
