Schulich Executive Learning Centre

George M. Klar is the President of Alternativ Solution Inc. (ASI), a Toronto based consultancy providing investment, financial and capital markets consulting to institutional clientele. These include pension and endowment plans, banks and insurance companies, asset managers and regulators.

The firm focuses on the asset side of the ledger, working on governance matters to achieve better investment results. The firms assignments focus on risk tolerance, investment policy, asset mix strategy or structuring, manager selection issues, asset transition and advice at the Board level.

Prior to forming ASI, Mr. Klar spent 25 years in senior roles in asset management, banking, insurance and consulting. He has published numerous articles on risk, investment management and economic matters, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. He was instrumental in the creation of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance and is a member of several associations.

He is a faculty member in the Finance Department of the Schulich School of Business at York University, where he teaches several courses on Investing and Corporate Finance. He has been repeatedly nominated for teaching excellence.

Mr. Klar received his MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University and a B.Sc. (Honors) from the University of Toronto. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Toronto CFA Society.

In 2010, Mr. Klar was the only Canadian to be awarded the prestigious 20-year Certificate of Achievement for professional excellence and continuing education from the CFA Institute.
