Harvard Graduate School of Design

Gary L. Brewer, a RAMSA Partner, joined Robert A.M. Stern Architects in 1989. His residential work includes the firm's 1994 Life magazine Dream House, which has sold over 7,000 house plans, as well as This Old House magazine's 1998 Dream House. He has designed custom houses in Seaside, Florida; Westport, Connecticut; Kiawah Island, South Carolina; Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts; and East Quogue, New York; Virginia Beach, Virginia; a penthouse apartment in New York; and speculative houses in the historic district of Fieldston in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York. His residential designs have been published in Architectural Digest, This Old House, Galerie, Period Homes, Dering Hall, Curbed and The New York Times. His work has embraced collaborations with interior designers including Steven Gambrel, Alexa Hampton and Arthur Dunnam.

Mr. Brewer has lectured extensively on traditional house design, the history of pattern book houses, and New York City clubs. He is a Fellow Emeritus and Board Member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Co-Chair of the Classicist Committee, and has led the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art's traditional house design seminars for the American Institute of Building Designers. Mr. Brewer served on juries for the 2009 Residential Architects Design Awards program, the 2011 Philip Trammell Shutze Awards, the 2011 John Staub Awards, the 2011 AIA New Jersey Design Awards, and the 2013 and 2014 Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Innovation in Design Awards.

In addition to his residential work, Mr. Brewer has designed clubhouses, urban infill mixed-use projects, and buildings for independent schools, colleges, and universities. He is co-author of the monographs Designs for Living: Houses by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (The Monacelli Press, 2014) and Designs for Learning: College and University Buildings by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (New York: Monacelli, 2016).
