Biography

Gary Chen has a diverse background in accounting and engineering. His research intersects accounting with corporate social responsibility, finance, information technology, labor relations and supply chain management. His interdisciplinary approach to research provides new insights into the economic forces that impact corporate accounting disclosures and those that drive information search by decision makers.

His research has been published by leading journals including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Information Systems and Accounting & Finance, among others. Chen teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting information systems. Prior to joining DePaul, he taught courses in advanced financial accounting as well as contemporary accounting issues and research at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He has received the Dean’s Recognition for Outstanding Teaching at UIC.

Chen is actively involved in the profession. He has presented his work at various seminars and conferences. His research has been nominated for several best conference paper awards. Chen regularly serves as a referee and conference discussant and has received the FARS Excellence in Reviewing ​Award.
