Biography

Dr. Evelyn Alvarez, MPH recently graduated from UCLA with a PhD in environmental health science where she focused on the hospital environment and antimicrobials, hospital-acquired infections, and pediatric isolation. She earned her MPH in environmental health sciences from Columbia University. Her research interests also include examining underrepresented narratives in the climate change dialogue and making sustainability more accessible to lower socio-economic populations. Her mentees were recently awarded the 2020 APHA Students for Climate Justice award to host an environmental justice film festival at Cal State LA during Public Health Week. She also plays contrabass for the Cal State LA Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Alvarez is a first generation college graduate. She enjoys hiking, running, photographing wildlife, and considers herself a professional dolphin watcher.
