Personal profile

Research interests

My research interests broadly concern the more sociocultural aspects of consumption. I employ qualitative, particularly ethnographic, research methods and sociological theory to the study of marketplace cultures. Building on my doctoral work, I currently study alternative modes of organizing (what happens when marketplace cultures reconfigure to formalized organizations) and different aspects of consumer-organized conspicuous projects of market resistance. I am also interested in challenges surrounding ethnographic data collection methods and particularly the ethics of rapport with research participants and moral mutuality in fieldwork.
