Biography

Wisconsin School of Business

Bess Malson-Huddle currently teaches Professional Communication and serves as an MBA Communication Coach at the Wisconsin School of Business. She was formerly the Communications Coordinator for the Office of the President at the University of Vermont where she also served as the President's speechwriter. She has published in both scholarly and literary journals and, with UVM Professor Daniel Fogel, she edited a book on current fiscal and political challenges for public universities.

Teaching Philosophy I strive to create a student-focused community of professional writers and presenters and a classroom environment that supports personal and professional development. Through online discussion boards, small group workshops, student-generated paper topics, and presentations, I encourage students to be proactive in their own learning process. I emphasize the efficiency and professional benefits of revising through peer feedback and assist students with writing and speaking assignments by addressing their individual goals, needs, and interests. Developments in pedagogy and technology encourage me to continually improve my classes by trying new things.

Collaborating with other instructors and learning from my students have been the most rewarding aspects of my teaching experiences. I consistently work with colleagues and students to create new assignments, activities, and courses based on the needs and interests of students. At the Wisconsin School of Business, I often collaborate with my colleagues in Professional Communications to create online collaborative writing exercises, class activities and games, grading rubrics, and student-generated teaching opportunities to engage business students and expose them to a variety of communications challenges.
