Alliance Manchester Business School
Prof Elinor O'Connor is currently Deputy Head of Alliance Manchester Business School, as well as holding the role of the School's Director of Teaching and Learning.
Elinor is a Professor of Work Psychology and is a British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Occupational Psychologist. Before joining AMBS, she practised as an occupational psychologist in a range of sectors including defence and transport. Elinor’s interests in the field of work psychology focus on occupational stress and its management, and her work includes research with the University of Manchester’s School of Pharmacy on occupational stress and error in community pharmacists. More recently, Elinor has been conducting a programme of applied research on work-related stress and well-being in veterinarians, an occupational group that experiences poor psychological health. Elinor received funding from the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account for a project in partnership with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to develop the RCVS's Guide to Enhancing Wellbeing and Managing Work Stress in the Veterinary Workplace. Additional work Elinor has undertaken with the veterinary profession includes a project with the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons to develop an annual well-being awards scheme for veterinary workplaces, and a study with the RCVS to benchmark well-being in UK veterinarians.
Elinor has taught across AMBS’s programme portfolios, with her current teaching commitments including the School’s MSc in Organisational and Business Psychology programmes, the full-time MBA programme, and executive education.
