Biography

I came to Manchester in 2003, to take up my post inAmerican Studies. Before that I lectured in Film Studies at Nottingham University, in American Studies at University of Central Lancashire, and in Cultural Studies at De Montfort University. 

I am a member of:

  • British Association for American Studies, and HOTCUS (Historians of the Twentieth Century United States)
  • Society for Cinema and Media Studies
  • American Studies Association
  • Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Association (Climate network).

Additional information:

I have acted as an expert for the defence in five legal cases in which violent rap lyrics composed and/or performed by defendants were presented as evidence.

I am a member of the Green Party.
