Biography
Eileen Gilmartin is a communications coach, marketing strategist and public relations consultant who advises a wide variety of profit and nonprofit clients whose goal is to build executive leadership teams and manage complex messages. She is a writer, editor and visual / design communication specialist.
Prof. Gilmartin has extensive experience in developing communications campaigns for Fortune 500 companies as well as building international projects via writing and securing USAID grants focused on developing small business executive management training programs and privatization efforts in former communist countries and southeastern Europe. (Ukraine and Macedonia, in particular)
She has also participated in advising and coordinating international higher education programs and cooperating small business and environmental initiatives in Cuba, Turkey and Greece.
As an Adjunct Professor at NYU Stern School of Business in the Management Communication program, she teaches both undergraduate and MBA students. Prof. Gilmartin is a member of an elite team of Stern Management Communication faculty who specialize in conducting Executive Education workshops and seminars that focus on developing leadership presence and innovative thinking skills. She is also a team coach for Stern’s highly regarded Berkley Competition program for young entrepreneurs.
Prior to NYU/Stern, Prof. Gilmartin has more than 20 years’ experience in higher education as a faculty member and administrator. She was a tenured Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Media and Communication Arts at the City College of New York, City University of New York. There she developed curriculum for degree-granting programs in communication theory, journalism, and advertising and public relations, and directed a national internship program for minority students in communications and film production.
She was also an executive assistant and marketing consultant to the president and cabinet of City College of New York, where she developed crisis management strategies, held media training workshops, and designed student and professional staff / faculty recruitment and retention programs.
Prof. Gilmartin also taught at the Culinary Institute of America where she held the position of Associate Dean of Adjunct Faculty, and honed her chef-wanna-be kitchen skills.
Prior to teaching, she was creative director, senior copywriter and account manager in several marketing, advertising and boutique design firms with national accounts in healthcare, the performing arts and studio arts, and higher education.
