Leonard N. Stern School of Business

Dinika Amaral was born and raised in Bombay, India. A former banker with JP Morgan Chase & Co., she has an M.A. and M.F.A. from New York University. Her work has appeared in Guernica, The Times of India, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Golden Handcuffs Review, Denver Quarterly, The Massachusetts Review, and in The Iowa Review (awarded the Tim McGinnis prize). She has been awarded residencies at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, PLAYA, and Ragdale, and has received support from the following conferences—Napa Valley Writers' Conference, the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley (awarded the James D. Houston Scholarship), and Tinhouse. She was a 2017-2018 Steinbeck Fellow at San Jose State University.

Having completed her short story collection, The Bombay Liaison and other stories, she is at work on her novel that features Indian gangsters and American songbirds and is set in Bombay, New York City, and in Rochester. She lives in the Bay Area with her husband and toddler daughter.
