Assimakopoulos is a full Professor at emlyon business school and founding Director of the EML Global DBA. He also serves as the President of the European Doctoral programmes Association in Management and Business Administration (EDAMBA), a faculty at the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), a senior expert and Board member for the EFMD European Quality Link (EQUAL). Prior to joining EML, he worked as a senior professor, associate dean for research and director of DBA programs in Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM). Dimitris has been educated in civil engineering, architecture, planning and economic sociology in Greece, UK, France and the USA. His research has focused on the management of collaborative networks for technological and organizational innovation, the origins and evolution of technological communities in the context of emerging knowledge-based regional and industrial ecosystems. Dimitris has led or participated in several multi-million euros projects with world class organizations, such as CERN, Fraunhofer ISI, STMicroelectronics and Airbus group. He has been a European Commission ‘Marie Curie’ ESR and principal investigator, a visiting scholar in Sociology and the Asia Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, as well as a visiting professor in several Universities in the UK and China. He has published numerous books, chapters, project reports and articles in scholarly and professional journals. Teaching has varied focusing early on business geographics, GIS & MIS; and more recently on doctoral studies focusing on research design, quali- / quanti-tative methods, supervised to successful completion fifteen PhD and DBA theses; and up started the EIASM Eden SNA (Social Network Analysis), doctoral seminar with colleagues from Bocconi University, UC London and MIT Sloan.

  • 2010 –2011: PI award at GEM LINC lab for the ‘Hadron Accelerators for Health’ project total budget (€15K), in collaboration with the University of Virginia (USA), supported by the CERN’s HEP (High Energy Physics) Technology Transfer Network and GSI’s (German Heavy Ion research lab) Technology Transfer Office on how the HEP community has developed innovative treatments for incurable cancers, through knowledge transfer in radiology and oncology related disciplines and communities (this inspired the CERN Collaboration Spotting platform: http://collspotting.web.cern.ch/ ).

  • 2006 – 2009: PI award at GEM LINC Lab and Chair of the Steering Committee of the MATRI ‘Méthode d’ Anticipation des Transformations Industrielles’ project, funded by the EC DG Employment and Social Affairs (total budget €1.8M), in collaboration with the following partners: STMicroelectronics, INPG, CAPGEMINI and Confédération Française de l'Encadrement (France); ISTUD, Politecnico di Torino and Confederazione Italiana Dirigenti (Italy); Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation research (ISI); Henley Management College; Confédération Européenne des Cadres.

  • 2002 –2004: Senior Researcher award at GEM, for the MEDFORIST ‘Euro-Mediterranean Network for sharing IST learning resources’ project (total budget €2.1M), of the EUMEDIS initiative developing a course on e-Commerce: focus on e-Travel / e- Tourism, with partners in 14 countries, training the trainers and developing the E-commerce curricula in Universities & Business Schools in S. Europe, N. Africa and Middle East.

  • 2002 –2003: Senior Expert appointed by the DG Information Society of the EC to review the project ERP-TEX ‘Internet Oriented Distributed ERP for Managing Textile Company’ (IST-2000-52032), within the EC’s FP5 for RTD.

  • 1999 – 2001: Project Director and PI award at the Hull University Business School for a project on ‘Employment and Innovation in SMEs’ funded by the Yorkshire and Humberside Universities Association (£67K over 18 months) as part of the European Social Fund Higher Level Skills program, in collaboration with Sheffield University Management School.

  • 1997 – 1999: UK ESRC (Economic & Social Research Council) Post-doctoral Research fellow award (European Context of Science Policy award) for 24 months at the Management School, University of Sheffield, UK.
