Biography

Prof. Dr. Frey, who was born in 1967, studied in Bonn, Lausanne and Bruges. After passing his first state examination in law in 1993, he obtained a master’s degree in European Community Law (LL.M.) at the College of Europe in Bruges in June 1995. In 1998 he passed the second state examination in law and completed his doctorate on European media law. He was previously an academic assistant of Professor Ulrich Everling at the Centre for European Economic Law at the University of Bonn. From 1998 to 2000 he worked for the international law firm Feddersen (now White & Case) in Brussels. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as Senior Vice President Business & Legal Affairs for the content-syndicator Cocomore AG in Frankfurt. Since setting up the FREY law office, he has concentrated on providing a comprehensive counselling service for national and international clients from the media, sport and internet sectors. His working languages are German, English and French.

Prof. Dr. Frey is a specialist copyright and media lawyer and specialist sports lawyer. He is also a member of the preliminary examination committee for the award of the specialist lawyer title “sports law” of the Cologne Bar Association and honorary professor for media management and sports law at the University of Applied Sciences Europe GmbH. He is a co-founder of the kölner forum medienrecht e. V. (kfm) and member of the Deutsche Vereinigung für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht (GRUR) as well as of the Alumni Medienrecht Köln e.V.

Prof. Dr. Frey publishes regularly academic articles and gives presentations on copyright-, media- and telecommunications law. Repeatedly, he has been appointed as expert for public hearings of the German Bundestag during the last years.
