David Scrymgeour, BCom’79, is Executive-in-Residence for the Rotman Commerce program. An accomplished entrepreneur, trouble-shooter, consultant, and corporate and community advisor, David brings a wealth of experience that will benefit Rotman Commerce students wishing to gain guidance from a successful working executive.
After graduating in 1979, Scrymgeour cut his corporate teeth at General Motors and IBM before embarking on his own consulting and entrepreneurial projects, which have taken him around the world – Australia, Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and across Canada. As founder and owner of an information management company, he was at the vanguard of that industry’s computerization of records management.
He has also founded two skills training businesses and is currently the majority shareholder of Green Standards Ltd, a company that provides innovative, environmentally progressive solutions to corporate waste through the repurposing of used office equipment.
David has been engaged as an advisor and board member of numerous community organizations, such as One Laptop Per Child Canada, the Belinda Stronach Foundation, the Make Poverty History Campaign, the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust, and the Canadian Executive Services Organization. He has served as National Director of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and advisor to the Green Party of Ontario; he has also delivered election readiness training in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia.
Concurrent with his appointment as Executive-in-Residence at Rotman Commerce, David is also an advisor with the MaRS Discovery District, where he lends his expertise to innovative entrepreneurial start-up projects. A strong believer that undergraduate commerce is one of the best foundations upon which to build an entrepreneurial career, Scrymgeour is an impassioned supporter of the potential for innovation and success within the Rotman Commerce student community.
As Executive-in-Residence, David will be available to meet with Rotman Commerce students to guide them in their entrepreneurial and executive aspirations.
