Biography

David Ranc’s research interest mainly focuses on football supporters in contemporary Europe. His PhD dissertation on supporters in Glasgow (the Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers), at Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal was published as Foreign Players and Footballl Supporters by Manchester University Press.
After working on the European research project FREE (Football Research in an Enlarged Europe) David Ranc co-wrote with Albrecht Sonntag a UNESCO report on the fight against discriminations in football: “Colour, what colour?” published in five languages, and co-edited, once more with Albrecht Sonntag, the FREE book series with Palgrave-Macmillan, the first academic one dedicated solely to football.
Between 2015 & 2019, David Ranc co-hosted for ESSCA the Sciences-Po (Paris) research seminar “Sport, cultures et sociétés” with Paul Dietschy.
At ESSCA School of Management, David Ranc has been Associate Dean for Quality and Accreditations since 2018. He teaches (in English) courses on argumentation skills, social sciences, globalisation, the music and the sport industries, leadership and intercultural communication.
David Ranc holds a degree from Sciences Po (Paris) and the University of Cambridge.
