Dr. Eckel is a professor of religion who received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Oxford University before attending Harvard for his Ph. D. Eckel’s publications include “Bhaviveka and His Buddhist Opponents”; “To See the Buddha: A Philosopher’s Quest for the Meaning of Emptiness”; “Buddhism”; “Jnanagarbha’s Commentary on the Distinction Between the Two Truths”; editor of “India and The West: The Problem of Understanding” and “Deliver Us from Evil.” Dr. Eckel serves as director of the Core Curriculum and was honored as a Distinguished Teaching Professor of the Humanities from 2002-2005. In 1998, he received the prestigious Metcalf Award for Teaching Excellence.
