Trinity College Dublin

David Coghlan is a Professor Emeritus and Fellow Emeritus at the Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He specializes in organization development and action research and is active in both communities internationally. He has published over 14 books and over 170 journal articles and book chapters.

David is one of the leading action research authors in the world. He is the author of the best-selling, Doing Action Research in Your Own Organization (Sage), a book that has gone through four editions with a fifth in progress. Other books include: Conducting Action Research for Business and Management Students (Sage, 2018), Inside Organizations (Sage, 2016), Organizational Change and Strategy (Routeledge, 2006, 2016), and The Dynamics of Organizational Levels (1994) in the seminal Addison-Wesley OD series. He is co-editor of The Sage Encyclopedia of Action Research (2014) and of the 4 volume sets Fundamentals of Organization Development (Sage, 2010) and Action Research in Business & Management (Sage, 2016). He serves on the editorial advisory boards of: Journal of Applied Behavioural Science, Action Research, Action Learning: Research and Practice, Systemic Practice and Action Research, The OD Practitioner among others. A profile of his work was included in The Palgrave Handbook of Organizational Change Thinkers (Springer, 2017).

He has won the best action research paper at the Academy of Management, Organization Development and Change Division in 2015 and in 2017 and the Research Methods division in 2007. He conducts faculty and doctoral seminars on action research in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, USA, UK as well as in Ireland.
