Teachers College Columbia University

Catherine Lan was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1980. Currently based in Queens, New York, she obtained MFA, Painting/Printmaking from Yale University (2007-2009), Artist Diploma from National Higher School of Art in Paris (2003-2006), and Bachelors in Oil Painting from Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing (1999-03). She is currently a doctoral candidate in Art and Art Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. In 2016, she received the Citation of Honor from the Queens Borough President and Excellence Award from the Lausanne to Beijing International Fiber Art Biennale; she is the recipient of Queens Council on the Arts Grant for Individual Artists (2015), and the Andrea Frank Foundation Sanyu Scholarship Fund from Yale University (2008-2010). She has exhibited worldwide in the U.S., Europe, China, and Taiwan. Exhibitions include The Moment – Interactive Art at the Queens Museum, Rewoven at El Museo de Los Sures in Williamsburg, Who’s Afraid of Pattern and Decorations? at Kathleen Cullen Gallery in New York; Mirror, Mirror, Who’s the Fairest of Them All? at Howard Salon in Taipei, Art Beijing, and International Fiber Art Biennale at Guanshanyue Museum in Shenzhen, China.

Catherine Lan is also an art educator, she has been teaching a wide range of students, ranging from lectures in colleges in Taiwan, Pre-K 12 public schools, and kindergarten in New York since 2010 until present. Her pedagogy includes: Abstract Art, Drawing, Digital Art, Figurative Art, Installation, Mixed-Media Art, Painting/Collage, and Performance Art.
