Biography

I teach modern literature, especially modernism, critical theory, and gender. Among the modules I offer are: ''Modernism'' (year 2); ''Key Issues in Twentieth-Century Literary and Critical Theory'' (MA module); ''Improper Modernism: Samuel Beckett and Djuna Barnes '' (year 3); ''Dante in Modernism'' (year 3); ''Modernism and Its Margins'' (MA module). I also teach on ''Theory and Text'' (year 1); ''English Tutorials'' (year 1); and ''Gender Sexuality and Culture'' (year 2 and MA).     

I am currently the President of the Beckett Society (2017–2020). I was a founder member and Treasurer (2009-2013) of the British Association for Modernist Studies (www.bamc.ac.uk; see alsohttp://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?sectioncode=26&storycode=417061&c=2). I am a member of the Modernist Studies Association (MSA), British Comparative Literature Association (BCLA), Centre for International Research in Childhood in Literature, Culture, Media (CIRCL), Associazione Italiana Anglisti (AIA).  

I sit on the Editorial Committee of Manchester University Press and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Beckett Studies. I act as a reader and reviewer for Modernism/Modernity, Comparative Literature, Modern Fiction Studies, The Journal of Modern LiteratureThe Journal of Beckett Studies, Textual Practice, English, Literature CompassNew Formations, Feminist TheoryModernist Cultures, MosaicBeckettiana. I am a member of the AHRC Peer Review College. I am the co-organiser, with Prof. Scott McCracken (QMUL, previously University of Keele) and Prof. Andrew Thacker (de Montfort University) of the Northern Modernism Seminar Series.
