Biography

Craig Protzel, a Los Angeles, California native, is a creative technologist whose work resides at the intersection of web development, computer science, interaction design, multi-media production and storytelling. His teaching and practice often focus on designing interactive computational spaces for education, exploration and entertainment.

He is currently an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU Tisch's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) as well as the Director of the Global Low Residency Master of Arts in Interactive Media Arts (IMA), a graduate degree jointly owned by NYU Tisch and NYU Shanghai. Prior to this appointment, Craig was an Assistant Professor of Interactive Media (IM) at NYU Abu Dhabi from 2014-2019. He served as the Program Head there from 2016 - 2019 and worked to establish IM as an undergraduate major.

Craig's professional experience outside of academia includes working as a producer-editor in the post-production sector of the entertainment industry as well as a creative designer-developer for a range of companies including NYU Langone Medical, O'Reilly Media and Vimeo. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology from Stanford University in 2001 and a Master's Degree from NYU Tisch's ITP in 2012.
