Chris Griffiths qualified in Medicine from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London. He trained in Dermatology at St Mary’s Hospital, London, and at the University of Michigan, USA, where he was on Faculty for 4 years. He was appointed to the Foundation Chair in Dermatology at the University of Manchester in 1994 and is an honorary consultant dermatologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. At the University of Manchester he has held several posts including Faculty Research Dean and Director of the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre. He currently leads for precision medicine and the University in the DevoManc initiative.
He received a lifetime achievement award from the American Skin Association in 2009, the Sir Archibald Gray Medal for outstanding service to British Dermatology in 2015, the Society of Cosmetic Scientists’ Medal (2016) and an American Academy of Dermatology Presidential Cittaion (2016). He is an NIHR Senior Investigator, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and elected Member of Academia Europaea.
Chris is co-founder and current President of the International Psoriasis Council and a past-President of the British Association of Dermatologists, European Dermatology Forum and British Society for Investigative Dermatology. He is an Executive Board member and Secretary /Treasurer elect of the European Society for Dermatological Research and Executive Board member of the International League of Dermatological Societies. He has published 556 Pubmed cited articles in scientific journals h-index 88 (Web of Science), 100 (Google Scholar), and is Editor in Chief of Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology. Chris has long-standing research interests in all aspects of psoriasis and is Director of the MRC stratified medicine consortium - psoriasis stratification to optimize relevant therapy – (PSORT) and Chief Investigator of the national pharmacovigilance register for psoriasis – British Association of Dermatologists Biologic Interventions Register (BADBIR). He also leads a large research programme on skin ageing and is the founder of the skincare company CG Skin.
