Alliance Manchester Business School
Chris Bones is Chair of the Board of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. In this role he is the first person without a legal background to hold the senior governance role in a legal professional body in the UK. Now in his second three-year term he has overseen a radical reform of the organisation and the route for qualification of CILEx Lawyers - specialist lawyers trained in depth to be experts in their fields. In 2021 he was appointed by the Lord Chancellor to the Expert Panel for the current Review of Criminal Legal Aid in England and Wales. Until June 2021, he was co-founder and Chairman of Good Growth Ltd, an e-commerce consultancy who work for leading brands to transform commercial and organisation strategies to deliver accelerated growth. He is also Emeritus professor of Creativity and Leadership at Manchester Business School and Dean Emeritus of Henley Business School having previously held senior roles in major Blue Chip corporations. His book The Cult of the Leader won the CMI/British Library Management Book of the Year Prize for 2012. His latest book ‘Optimising Digital Strategy’ was published in December 2018 and is the follow-up to ‘Leading Digital Strategy' was published in 2015. This book has received considerable praise from senior leaders. Written in partnership with James Hammersley and Nick Shaw from Good Growth Ltd it sets out a blueprint for leading successful e-commerce. He was an independent director of the UK's Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board and chaired its Audit and Remuneration Committees, Chair of the Terrence Higgins Trust Board and Chair of the Supervisory Group of AIESEC International and a regular columnist and contributor to newspapers and magazines on digital leadership. He acted as an adviser to the Hutton Commission on Fair Pay in the Public Sector and to the MacLeod Report on Employee Engagement and has advised previous UK governments in matters associated with business. In 2012 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Aberdeen.
