Dr. Chin Hur is the Herbert and Florence Irving Professor of Medicine to Honor Dr. Jeffrey Alan Stein and Professor of Epidemiology and Director, Healthcare Innovations Research and Evaluation at Columbia University Medical Center. He received his MD and MPH from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr Hur is both a physician and a research scientist. He is a recognized expert in cancer screening and prevention for gastrointestinal cancers and is a leader within a National Cancer Institute consortium of researchers that work towards improving cancer management.
The overarching goal of his research as a physician-scientist is to improve clinical care for patients with cancer and to improve cancer control on a population level. His group performs analyses that leverage the diverse health outcomes methods and techniques that his research team and himself have gained expertise in. Dr. Hur also serves as the contact and coordinating PI for the esophageal cancer group.
Dr Hur’s research focuses on gastrointestinal cancer, and with the appropriate collaborators, he also intents to expand it to other cancer sites and medical conditions. His research team is growing its data analytics and advanced machine learning expertise to develop clinical prediction rules.
